Running a marine diesel business is a blast, yet eye opening just how expensive it truly is! In this video, I talk about a few of the basic things that help determine my hourly rate, the expenses I pay to fix YOUR engine and how that is included in my hourly rate!

Marine diesel serpentine belt upgrade kits are great in theory, and if properly made for your engine, they 'should' be easy for the DIYer to install with basic tools. Balmar is notorious for making kits and accessories at a premium price, that don't really fit the engines they are designed to fit, claiming that it's the customers fault for problems. Normally, I'm not the one installing a new kit, but I don't come across alot of these issues in the field after they have had some major failures due to poor fitment. I want to show you what I mean, so you can be prepared for some of the potential issues/fixes you may face if purchasing one of these kits! It may not be the "easy" install you were told.
Join me as I reassemble the top end (cylinder head and valves) of the Yanmar 4JHBE project!
Join us as we begin the process of assembling this Yanmar 4JHBE Marine Diesel engine! Jason, the engine's owner has joined me today in the shop to help get things started and we have made good progress!
The saga with the junkyard engine continues! Before spending any big bucks on this engine, I'm really hoping to see and hear it run, will she let me do that? Or push the limits like she knows how to do? In this video, I'm aiming to not spend any money on new parts in hopes I can come up with a plan for my customer. We shall see if I am successful or not!
My client has purchased an untested engine out of a local scrapyard to repower his boat with....let's dive in and see what we can do to get this engine running! We don't know much history and we have never seen it run, hopefully it'll be worth the effort of bringing it home!
Engine and propeller shaft alignment is more critical than you think, here's how it works, what to pay attention to and how to do it on a basic level!
Here's a quick video on how to remove the gear housing on a Yanmar 4JHBE so we can access the timing gear set underneath! This is a relatively easy job and a common one performed on many marine diesel engines. This engine uas a fairly common setup similar to what you'd find on most marine diesel engines!
