Let's tear into it and see what went wrong and why this thing decided to puke oil all over itself!

I am also experimenting with a new camera and editing software, so hopefully the video is easy to watch!
Got called in prior to an impeding seatrial that a few things needed to be repaired and sure enough, there's more to find once things are opened up! I manage to balance it all, but it can be real stressful when you start finding things!

Today I tear into the Yanmar 4JH2-TE that had been damaged by the shipping company. My poor customers took the hit and decided this engine wasn't the best for them....I think they may be right! Diving deeper underneath the fresh paint only reveals the neglect underneath. I don't want to go further!
Let's pull the cylinder head off this Yanmar 4JH3-DTE and see what's underneath! It's definitely not the greatest finding, but it answers many questions!
So many people have asked. so I'm gonna answer! I tell you about the boots I wear everyday and why they are my favorite! Enjoy!
This engine is a frustrating one and is putting up quite the fight! I make a bit of progress, but alot of my time is spent working through all the corrosion. :/
The first of the two catamaran engines was terrible, let's see what this one looks like!
My truvk has a very tall flatbed and while I had a small basic ladder in the past. it was getting to the point where it was rather uncomfortable to use. Between the scrap pile and some new stock I was able to fabricate a nice folding ladder and get it attached to the truck. It was worth the effort!
Injection pumps do have that cloud of mystery around them, let's talk about it! This video introduces you to the basics of mechanical fuel injection pumps, how they work and how to remove a rotary style pump from a Yanmar 4JH3-DTE!
Today was a hard day! Finishing up the shop move, getting my forklift stuck and pulling another all-nighter just to get word on what is going on with the Yanmar 4JH3-DTE so my customer has some answers. I'm wrecked, but it's still worth it because I love what I do!
Today I pull apart (or attempt to!) remove the heat exchanger tube bundles for service and while doing so discovered some severe damage requiring housing replacement alongside tube bundle servicing/replacement. While the tube bundles can be pricey, the housings are even more pricey, so you really don't want to wait so long that they are destroyed too! Learn from this owners mistake and maintain your heat exchangers!
These two Yanmars came out of a catamaran and they have identical symptoms, let's get them home and start going through them to see what we find! (It's not good!)
Learn to interpret what your engine is telling you by the color of your exhaust. Here's the basics of what's happening and how to interpret smoke color and volume for a marine diesel engine!
The recreational marine industry in the US is the wild west when it comes to good, honest service and repair. Here's a few things to watch out for as a boater who needs to protect themselves and their wallet!
Just because I work as a marine diesel mechanic day to day doesn't mean I am not worried about my own engine/boats performance while on vacation. Today I share with you common things I'm doing while cruising to ensure everything is set to go in order to avoid major issues or expensive mistakes! Call me a nervous Nelly, and that's ok - because I have been able to avoid alot of issues by simply paying attention!
Trying to decide what engine you want in your boat? Have one of these engines already? I am starting an engine review series and the Yanmar GM's are probably the most common engine I rebuild and repair in my shop! Follow along as I dive into the quirks about this production model of popular marine engines!
Received the first engine for the fall season, but unfortunately the freight company literally dropped this thing on it's head. Time to heck out and deal with the damages I suppose.
Run time (also known as engine hours or mileage) can give you some insight into the health of an engine, but it can also tell you very little about what's inside. Stop relying on that number as the only thing that matters when purchasing a vessel or engine and you will avoid alot of hassle!
