This week on Escapade, we’ve got a mix of thoughtful gifts, new skills to learn, and some exciting upgrades for the boat. A viewer and talented craftsman, Aaron from The Barefoot Sander, kindly sent us some beautiful handmade pieces for Escapade, including a custom spice rack that completely transforms our galley. It’s always amazing to see the support from this community, and Aaron’s craftsmanship fits perfectly onboard. Next, we pick up a second-hand Sailrite sewing machine, which means it’s finally time for us to learn how to sew and start repairing some of our own canvas. Before installing our new mainsail, we put the machine straight to work repairing our sail bag — our first real test learning how to use it. After that, it’s time for one of the upgrades we’ve been most excited about. We pick up our brand new custom mainsail, made by the incredible team at South East Asia Sails in Phuket, Thailand, and finally get it installed on Escapade. This week on Escapade, we continue rebuilding the port side of our saloon — and it’s finally time to tackle the flooring. The old teak and holly had seen better days. After ripping everything out, we start fresh using three new sheets of teak and holly from World Panel Products. From templating and cutting to sanding and multiple coats of varnish, this job was a full process — and definitely not a quick one. And when we finally step back for the reveal? The new cabinetry paired with the fresh teak and holly completely transforms the space. Escapade honestly looks like a different boat. This week on Escapade, we finally tackled a job we’ve known was coming. Part of our saloon has had water damage and rotten wood for a while — and although it would have been easy to patch over it, we knew that wasn’t good enough. If we’re preparing this boat for the Pacific, we want it solid. So we ripped it out. What started as removing damaged wood quickly turned into the beginning of a full redesign. If we’re going to rebuild it, we might as well build it better — and make the space truly work for how we live onboard. To do it properly, we headed to World Panel Products, where the absolute legends on the team generously allowed us to use their workshop to cut and prep our new panels. This week we continue heading south on the Intracoastal Waterway, making our way toward Palm Beach, Florida. What starts as a fairly normal cruising day quickly turns into something much more confronting. Between boat jobs like waterproofing our cushions and settling into life underway again, we’re hit with a scary reminder of how unpredictable life aboard can be when Nala suddenly becomes unwell and we have to rush her to the vet. It’s the kind of moment no cruising pet owner ever wants to face — and one that forces us to think seriously about what could happen when we’re far more remote. This week we’re in Hammock Beach Marina, Florida, tackling one of the dirtiest jobs on the boat… the anchor locker 🤢⚓ With a major upgrade underway, we clean out over a year's worth of grime and install our new Rocna MKII stainless steel anchor. There’s one very specific reason we’re switching to stainless! While tied up at the marina, we dive into some deep cleaning of our cockpit lockers (because cruising chaos is very real). Before leaving, we also have the hull scraped, and the difference in speed once we’re back underway is honestly unreal. We finally turn south and commit to the big decision — crossing the Pacific 🌊 With a huge passage ahead of us, it’s time to stop procrastinating and start ticking off the long job list. In this video, we head into Hammock Beach Marina for a few nights to give Escapade some much-needed TLC. From deep cleaning and bleaching our canvas, whitening the gel coat on the sugar scoop, and repairing worn canvas, to installing new stainless steel to reinforce our solar panels on the existing solar arch — it’s all hands on deck. We also finally get our depth transducer and chart plotter compass reading sorted, which has been a long time coming. Despite a few unexpected setbacks, it feels amazing to make real progress and start preparing Escapade properly for what lies ahead. The Pacific is calling, and we’re getting ready to answer. ICW boating, shallow water navigation, Fort Pierce to Vero Beach — in today’s episode we motor up the Intracoastal Waterway with a broken depth transducer, making every mile sketchy as we pass through Vero Beach, Melbourne Beach and Eau Gallie. Along the way we spot playful dolphins and explore beautiful, well-kept neighbourhoods that show off the charm of Florida’s Space Coast. We stop to explore what each city has to offer before threading our way through a narrow channel into a quiet hurricane hole to hide from incoming strong winds and stormy weather. Spearfishing in the Bahamas turns risky after a big hogfish catch near Green Turtle Cay. Wild pigs, beach bars, barracuda encounters — and a surprise illness.

We start at No Name Cay, dive with an unexpected visitor, feed some wild pigs, and end up questioning everything after Jase starts getting sick far from help.
