She stole our hearts and minds last time round and she's coming back?a recent refit has refined her interior and systems?her looks give off a kind of playful functionality and they certainly don't offend.. In MARY ISLAY, John E. Powell - Aeromarine's highly proficient in-house yacht designer who would subsequently become better known as an alloy spar maker - perfected a highly attractive and purposeful fusion of workboat type with yacht styling and construction standards. Dubbed a "fishing yacht" on launch, this teak wonder achieves a whole lot in her overall length, with well thought-out space above and below for cruising and pottering by family and friends. Sensibly and economically powered by a trusty Gardner 4LW, and given more than just deserts professionally in current ownership, MARY ISLAY is a very special love affair waiting to happen. MISCHIEF is one of the fortunate survivors of the beautiful West Solent One Design Class included in a 1990s wave of restoration and revival. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/756/MISCHIEF The West Solent was the sports boat of its day; probably the first in the UK to be series built. Perhaps the most successful and elegant inshore waters racer/ cruiser ever to grace UK waters, they look equally as good at rest as at play. 31 boats were built by Berthon Boat Company for UK clients between 1923 and 1933, with fleets developing at Lymington, Torbay, and on the east coast. MISCHIEF has sailed there, and much further afield including cruising Europe's western seaboard to the Mediterranean in the 1980s. She has undoubtedly benefited from having just one loving owner since 1991; very well set up for short handed cruising and occasional racing. There is something very romantic about a boat that looks like this and a long ownership; he sails her often, and normally on his own.
The 39ft William Fife/ OM Watts Cutter, PEREGRINE, from 1936, taking a stroll down the Solent late last summer on her way to supper on the Beaulieu River?she's very pure and uncomplicated, wholesome - even humble in her look ? but aren't those the special ones.. Modern yachts will take you there too, but wouldn't you rather get there in this kind of style!? HELEN is the first in a remarkable triptych of late 1930s 3rd International Rule 8-Metres drawn by experienced designer to the Rule and Olympic gold medal winning helmsman Sir Thomas Glen-Coats; built on the Clyde in consecutive years at the Mylne family's Bute Slip Dock Co. yard, where Glen-Coats was a director and major backer. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/765/HELEN They were among the last full keel 8mRs built in Britain and represent the pinnacle of truly classic 8-Metre design. At the end of her initial class-racing days, conversion by her original builder to an able, and of course fast, cruiser-racer kept HELEN very much alive, so that when the 8-Metre Class revival began in the early 2000s, she was a natural subject for restoration and application of the subtle authenticity and performance treatments allowed under the Sira Cup World Championship Rules for boats built before 1960. HELEN is very well equipped and optimised to be competitive at the next major 8mR championship and simply to be enjoyed as a supremely elegant and fleet of foot day/ weekend racer-cruiser.
If any classic yacht is true to the idea that it is using and maintaining a boat as originally intended that preserves it, rather than as a static exhibit, it's TOMAHAWK. And she has the Sparkman & Stephens DORADE-descendent 'inboard yawl' pedigree and storied career to go with it: of class wins, top placings and participation in the great American inland and offshore races of the 1930s and 1940s. A mid 2000s keel-up restoration, including discreet modern comfort upgrades, ensured TOMAHAWK's longevity, allowing the cruising and racing adventures to continue, mostly by friends and family, rarely with professional help: in England, the Mediterranean, Transatlantic, the Caribbean, the Baltic, even the Barents Sea. TOMAHAWK is a rare and highly recommended opportunity. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/668/TOMAHAWK
KALEA is a ketch-rigged classic yacht with up to four twin, en-suite cabins, spacious and elegant convivial spaces, and sparkling yet stately performance under both sail and motor. It all works just as well now aboard this mid-century gem as when she was first launched into the swinging sixties Italian Riviera, the product of a fruitful relationship between high performance motorsailer aficionado Bruno Veronese, and the embryonic years of what has become one of Italy's most famous yards, Cantieri di Pisa. KALEA's present, UK based owners have sensibly refitted, upgraded - and repaired where age required - to bring this special 69 footer into the 21st Century without any loss of vintage charm. KALEA is afloat and very ready for her 60th season. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/762/KALEA
BUFEO BLANCO is Cesare Sangermani's superb take on a strong, comfortable, spacious, elegant - and of course beautifully built - fast cruiser capable of winning races under the RORC Rating Rule in force at the time in the Mediterranean. Originally launched as LUIMAR, she has cruised extensively under six ownerships, but it wasn't until the classic boat revival era that her racing potential was fully realised - and some. Since 2008 BUFEO BLANCO has become one the best known and most successful boats on the Mediterranean classic regatta circuit while still enjoying family cruising to the full. 50 ft/ 6 m may be the perfect owner-driver size and BUFEO BLANCO ticks so many boxes. And she has that very special badge: she's a Sangermani! https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/679/BUFEO%20BLANCO
DANCER has Bill Tripp Jr's distinctive and very attractive style written all over. His name means that sailing performance comes guaranteed; after all, she's a slightly smaller design sister to Huey Long's incredibly successful ONDINE II, also built by master yacht builders Abeking & Rasmussen in aluminium. In recent decades blue water performance cruising has been DANCER's calling, and she does this with comfortable aplomb. Always well maintained and upgraded during 35 years of previous ownership, DANCER's current owner since 2022 has fastidiously refitted the aluminium sloop to the extent that very few items of systems and equipment date from earlier than 2023. DANCER is well set for many more miles of ocean voyaging and/or family cruising and classic racing. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/755/DANCER%20(ex%20AVENIR)
Romantically named and conceived - a dream come true for Cornwall-based boatbuilder and educator Luke Powell and many who worked on and followed this remarkable project - the replica Falmouth Pilot Cutter PELLEW is one of the most memorable boats we have seen. She's lucky to have been designed and built, as close as possible to the long lived VINCENT of 1852, by someone bold enough to do it and who really knows what works: as a traditional boat, and as a successful charter vessel. PELLEW has already been very well tested, and has youth, size, and volume very much on her side - as well, of course, as incredible and unique good looks. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/747/PELLEW
THALIA is an astonishing throwback to the earliest, 19th-Century days of organised yachting, yet she's a thoroughly practical, easily handled classic yacht. Wanhill of Poole is a name etched in the history of that period, and THALIA carries that direct lineage with her, together with the old world charm and amazing looks that have rescued this characterful cutter more than once from the chainsaw. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/626/THALIA Her Millennium restoration undertaken with skill and passion, honoured and enhanced in current ownership, has ensured a long future life, surely well into her third Century. In recent years THALIA has taken part in transatlantic adventures her original designer and builder couldn't have dreamed of, and she's been a cherished family cruiser-racer closer to home.
In our view, the 46 and 52 were among the most successful Spirit Yachts designs, and for good reason. But at 65 feet, the deckhouse proportions really work and the concept probably reaches its sweet spot - a beautifully timeless aesthetic - and could easily be sailed by two people only. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/739/SPIRIT%20OF%20JOSEPHINE Elegance combined with modern handling above and below the waterline, and great craftsmanship, are of course a Spirit Yachts specialty, but it takes commissioning owners with vision to create a boat like SPIRIT OF JOSEPHINE. From natural zinc surfaces to Harris Tweed Chesterfields, she leaves you wanting to spend time aboard. This is no average boat: SPIRIT OF JOSEPHINE is a modern classic with an awful lot of soul.
Harking from a seminal period in Sparkman & Stephens design history following their 12-Metre INTREPID's America's Cup success - when S&S led the way in split-keel-and-rudder racers and cruiser-racers - ROSE WILDER has the added good fortune of build by one of the finest of Italian yards, Cantiere Sangermani. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/710/ROSE%20WILDER%20(ex%20SANDPIPER) Their artistic attention to detail and quality is evident throughout. As SANDPIPER in long initial ownership by Santa Barbara Yacht Club's Dean Brown, she was a well known and successful participant in some of the classic West Coast USA offshore races. Subsequently she has cruised the Pacific seaboard in the hands of only two owners who, not surprisingly, fell in love with this very attractive, responsive and sure-footed yacht. Modern sail handling systems allow her to be easily sailed single or short handed while bow and stern thrusters allow neat berthing feats. Although very much in commission, ROSE WILDER does require attention to elements of her structure commensurate with her age - reflected in a very reasonable asking price for a very striking 50-footer with superb provenance.
ILONDA is among the earliest and purest of John Bain's iconic and much sought-after Silver ORIMIDALE Class, with the original, clean and highly attractive deckhouse on flush deck profile. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/572/ILONDA In long term current ownership, ILONDA has received a sensible maintenance regime and recently been re-powered, while her accommodation has been tastefully and respectfully upgraded to modern standards. Such comfort and practicality married to the ORMIDALE Class's legendary seakeeping qualities and sheer presence make ILONDA a very enticing family classic motor yacht - and perhaps a most suitable classic regatta mothership.
The Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter type has long been held in the highest of esteem as the perfect all round sailing vessel, and ALPHA completely fits that billing. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/479/ALPHA Call Barney Sandeman: +44 (0)1202 330077 ALPHA's long and interesting life has been guaranteed to last many more years after a restoration undertaken by and under the supervision of some of the best possible practitioners of their craft, for owners who really knew what they wanted based on long experience under sail, and an intense two seasons of intimacy with ALPHA as purchased and pre-restoration. Independent of all the superb craftsmanship, the key element that has been restored in ALPHA is her ability from birth as a superbly easily handled vessel under sail and power by just two people, whilst offering the most comfortable of accommodation for long periods with plenty of space for friends.
