Velvetfish are small, shallow bottom residents, who's skin has a velvet texture. They are generally flattened in shape, with small pelvic fins, and a fleshy pad under the head. There are about 40 species, and some have venomous spines! The Velvetfish is a rare and interesting species and some of its adaptations. His adaptation meas he has an extremely long dorsal fin and that dorsal fin is used to break up the outline of the fish in the habitat in which it lives. Their dorsal fin sometimes stretches all the way from in front of the eyes to the tail! Amazing capture by OceanVizion!
