** NOW SOLD ** The Tayana 42 is designed by Robert Harris and built by Ta Yang, one of Taiwan’s top yards, with a reputation for quality construction and fine teak interiors. Production for the 42 started in 1979, and about 200 were built in three-deck configurations. Most vessels, like Luna Sea, were built with the aft cockpit option. The vessels were built in solid fibreglass, with a cast iron insert encapsulated inside the GRP keel. With her heavy displacement and pronounced sheer line with good freeboard at the bow, she can handle heavy weather well. The decent-sized cutter sail plan and a more modern underwater ship than many vessels of her time, ensure a vessel that sails sail remarkably well. On deck, the secure aft cockpit is well protected from the elements and features a well-built pushpit extension with integral tender davits, BBQ, and outboard storage. 6 Lewmar winches control most of her handling lines, and a well-protected companionway allows safe access to and from the saloon. The interiors were made semi-custom and all crafted with solid teak trim. Luna Sea interior is the two-cabin, one-head version. The saloon is the focal point, with high ceilings, a folding central table, and settees. Good cross ventilation is ensured by multiple deck hatches and coachroof portlights. The well-laid-out galley to starboard has deep double sinks, a fridge and freezer and a new gas stove with oven and grill. The forward cabin has a double berth, which has been made into a large V shape, with ample storage in multiple lockers and below berth bilges. The single but large head has a separate shower area over a small bath. Port aft is another double berth, which may be closed by a folding door. The vessel is powered by a Yanmar 50Ho engine, which had a major service less than a year ago; A 2020 Survey is available and, together with all her recent updates and ‘to-do’ items listed in the inventory, should provide a good insight into this sought-after cruising /liveaboard vessel.
