BLOG http://www.in-mocean.org Thank you to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this journey with my sailboat Karl with me so far. It would not have been the same without you. This episode was filmed in 08 / 2020. ? Hey, my name is Nike and I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, I swap my old AGM batteries for some new to me AGM batteries that I bought from a fellow cruiser. Also, I go through an extensive troubleshoot of the electric motor or my Lofrans Tigres Horizontal Windlass only to find out that it was a lose wire that caused all the trouble. Here is a list of the things that I trouble shoot on my electric motor for my Lofrans Tigres Windlass: - check carbon brushes - clean carbon brushes - clean magnets - clean commutator - check commutator for shorts or broken wires - clean armature stack - check armature teeth for no continuity to commutator Hopefully this will help you in case you ever have to check the electric motor of your windlass (or any other electric motor, since it is basically always a similar set up) Enjoy and Ahoy, Nike & Karl
