For those of you that aren't familiar with our story, about a year ago, just before we set off on our passage from Vanuatu to Indonesia, we discovered water in our gearbox oil and started to have trouble going in and out of gear, luckily mostly reverse gear. This was a nasty surprise, especially as we'd only relaunched 6 months prior, and had just changed the sail drive seals. We won't know for sure the cause until we haul out, it could be a worn shaft where the seal goes, it could be the drain plug, whose thread is stripped, or it could be the amount of plastic we've encountered in Indonesian waters and get caught round our propeller.
