It was a day that didn’t promise much but delivered on several fronts for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli on this, day two, of their commissioning of the new port foil that they revealed and declared on the 6th April. With Jimmy Spithill back in Cagliari, it was a day of short course sailing at race pace with the enigmatic Australian putting the hammer down and extracting maximum meaningful data whilst rifling through a variety of light air modes to give the design and engineering teams plenty to be happy about. Speaking afterwards, Jimmy Spithill, always a compelling interviewee, gave a superb run down of the day saying: “Yeah it was a great little breeze. Initially all the models showed that the mistral would spite the sea breeze and we weren't convinced we were going to get much in but as it turned out I was kind of 6 to 9 knots all day and really good sailing…just getting a bit more time on the wing and in those conditions, it was just a great opportunity to do some laps and sort of test that kind of downrange gybing and manoeuvring. A few times we got caught in some light air and the guys are doing a good job in being able to survive a few of them and yeah, it's just good to go round the marks as then you have the pressure of the boundary and having to pull off a manoeuvre.” 'Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024
