“I’m Not Getting Younger. I Still Do It This Way.” Norwegian Snekke Tour
Arnstein is 71. He still uses his boat — and he still walks around the outside to get aboard. This is a full tour of his Kragerø 26, a classic Norwegian snekke from the 1980s. We start on the pontoon, look at the wooden neighbour boat that is the old model of the type, then climb aboard while he shows how the boat is built and how he uses it now. In this video: • What a Norwegian snekke is — and why his 26-footer is wider and roomier than the old wooden ones • Extra stairs, because he is an old man and wants an easy way in • Galley, fridge (Danish beer), helm, VHF on channel 16, and a simple toilet that works • Sleeping for two, maybe three, and a saloon table that drops into a big bed • The engine: a marinised Mercedes 230 diesel from the 80s. Freshwater cooled. “You can’t kill it.” • Why owners of these boats will not change them — even after a neighbour spent more than 100,000 NOK rebuilding one the insurance called scrap This is not a luxury yacht. It is a practical coastal boat with a lot of room, a slow reliable engine, and a man who is not getting younger — and still does it this way. Boat: Kragerø 26 snekke (fibreglass) Place: a small marina in Norway Channel: Sailing Maja – Beyond the Hamster Wheel If you are over 50 and wondering whether boat life has to be big or new — watch this.
