As we continue this series on the Sailboat Commissioning of this brand new Catalina 445 Sailing Yacht, it's important to properly commission your boat to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. In this video, we'll walk you through the steps of stepping your mast. The mast is crucial to the safety and operation of any sailboat. Ted Weyhrauch from Innovative Marine is in charge of this critical component. At this stage all the equipment that goes on the mast, the shrouds, spredders, electronics, halyards and stays have been attached to the mast. Now comes the critical process of stepping the mast. Stepping the mast is one of the most dangerous activities in the commissioning process as you are picking up the mast with a crane, navigating the mast through other boats, cars and people and setting it on deck to perfectly match the deck base while at the same time running wiring through the mast and deck and attaching the standing rig. So you will see the entire process of stepping the mast and a few extras. You will see it is not as simple as folks would make you believe.
