Dive Cleaning a Hunter 30 Sailboat

This classic Hunter 30 is used by a long-time sailor and sailing instructor, and was in need of a good cleaning. Take a look at the before and after cleaning the hull, prop, rudder, and drive shaft... it's definitely a huge improvement! The three big factors that influence growth on a boat hull are sunlight, current, and time. In British Columbia the ocean is rich with microscopic marine life that is always looking to cling to surfaces and establish colonies. Most boaters in the Pacific Northwest are aware of this and clean their hulls regularly, but even with a year between cleanings a lot of marine life can build up on a boat. In this case the owner had the hull cleaned only 9-10 months before he asked us to take care of his boat. You can see that even with this period of time a variety of growth has thrived.
