Broken Boats, Bodies & Stress - Vendée Globe Week 11 - 23-1-25
As Sébastien Simon aboard Groupe Dubreuil crossed the line to take third, his impressive performance completed the podium spots in this edition of the Vendée Globe. But while three boats may have finished, there are 31 still racing and even as they head north and start to focus on the final stages, the race is getting harder and harder every day. They have all now been racing for 74 days and the toll is clear to see. The stress has risen considerably, the boats suffering more frequent damage and bodies are starting to break. Even for those closest to home, a major storm in the Atlantic provided serious cause for concern for Jérémie Beyou and Sam Goodchild while also proving that until you cross the line you cannot bank on anything. So, while the top silverware may have been claimed, the Vendée Globe is a long way from being over.
