Australian TP52s Series 2022 - Regatta 5
Day 2 of the 5th and final regatta in the Australian TP52 Sailing Association season was raced on a Sydney Harbour course today in highly variable conditions. Light airs at the start sent the fleet up harbour before sailing down the harbour towards Manly, with the wind dying out almost completely north of the Sow and Pigs. David Doherty’s Matador picked the best of the returning breeze and led the fleet to Manly West before returning up harbour and avoiding the worst of the windless patches. From there Matador pulled out a long lead on the second circuit of the harbour, being followed back to Manly by Gordon Ketelby’s Zen, Chris Townsend and Matt Donald’s Gweilo. The TP52 Series has proved popular with the owners, offering racing under two ratings – IRC and TPR – to level the field for several generations of TP52 designs. Matador won the Series overall on TPR and Gweilo won overall on IRC. Word has it that up to ten TP52s may be racing next season.
