"Connecting Lines" reveals 20 years of navigational research that demonstrates the connection and maritime culture of Peru and the South American coast. South American sailors are possibly the first in all of America. After having been part of the first Peruvian crew to sail around the world and having lived in Hawaii for several years, this fascinating documentary explores, together with a team of professionals, the evidence that connects Peru with Polynesia due to the connection of both maritime civilizations. Through the sea and the fragile and unknown legacy of traditional Peruvian sailing navigation, the traditional Peruvian sailing fisherman who is more than 1,500 years old is recently explored in detail. The Grau Tropical Pacific Natural Reserve area is the scene of the Peruvian raft traditional sailors who still remain in northern Peru and continue to disappear. On the verge of extinction as a practice almost forgotten by the current world of raft navigation, at the end of the short film, there is a wonderful contrast with "modern inherited wayfinding" of Peruvian sailing, and exploring the same transmision of "the sailing connection". The whole idea of traditional sailors and modern ones is to deeply learn to manage the purpose for conservation not allowing sailing´s extinction as a practice.  "Connecting lines" promoting history as the conservation of the legacy of the Peruvian ocean is what is transmitted in this Peruvian ocean sailing documentary. Based on the concepto: "We cannot love what we do not know". At the time of having produced "Atando Cabos"/Connecting lines on June 28, 2024, raft sailing has been declared as a cultural heritage recently as part of Peru's shared declarations by UNESCO due to its major importance recenlty from the work of some few including the Excecutive Director Alec Hughes Pardo, Music: Track "Canto al Mar" Composer: Mariano Palacios and Salo Langberg, Laguna Pai. And amongst the sailing leaders of the fisherman's small town is: Percy Bayona (father), Percy Ballona (jr), Justo Bancayan (traditional sailors & artisanal fishermen). Los Órganos, Santos Guerrero (last sailor in traditional Balsilla, which he calls the "Sail Raft". Last traditional artisanal fishermen found in this área. Both areas have recently declared as natural reserve, mentioned above. Educator, green ocean schools based on sustainable education with the sea: Francesca Ratto, Mancora and Los Órganos. And Coast2Coast movement: Nicolas Landa, Lobitos Piura. NGO, Organization that promotes education with the sea using audiovisual media and working on the identity and coastal culture in state schools of Northern Perú, Aldo Duran: Hijos del viento, "Sons of the wind", in Cabo Blanco. Initiative that promotes tourism in traditional artisanal fishing sailboats. Peruvian colonial fishing sailboats are the scene of sustainable tourism where, Aldo promotes the craftsmanship of Balsillas art boatbuilding, as part of his tourist activity. Nina Pardo: "H2OSostenible" is an NGO that promotes artisanal fishing and has managed to keep the Cabo Blanco regatta as a tradition on the "St Paul/Peters Fisherman's Day" in this wonderful cove where even Sir Ernest Heminghway was inspired for the "Old Man and the Sea". Nina has also managed to make Cabo Blanco sailing fishing part of the nation's cultural heritage.
