Why would a motor be required for a sailing race? Well technologies have elvoved considerably from when sailing meant just that! Today’s racing yachts need a lot of power for wind instruments, autopilots, and communication. Meteorological data is downloaded and courses plotted to gain the best speed and direction, reports are sent to sponsors and race control. As you can see on the drawing on the left, energy on the boat will be produced by solar panels integrated to the mainsailand connected to an electric motor from Oceanvolt. The motor will also function as a generator because the propeler will turn when the boat moves through the water, making clean green energy The energy will be stored in 9 batteries, providing power for up to 1 week when the sun doesn’t shine, and the yacht is moving toofast to allow propellor powered generation!
