Exploring Dominica: Waterfalls, Jungle Hikes & Our Last Adventure! 🌿💦⛰️ Join us for our last day in the lush jungle of Dominica! We started our morning packing up our VRBO and heading out for an adventure. First stop: Emerald Pool—a stunning waterfall with crystal-clear water. While Steve and the boys jumped in, flipping off rocks and playing in the mud, Malia and I opted to stay dry for the day’s full itinerary. Next, we took on the Middleham Falls hike, a challenging but breathtaking 3-mile trek through the dense rainforest. When we arrived, Steve captured the moment with our DJI drone while Malia posed for some epic shots. The boys, as always, wasted no time diving into the powerful waterfall. We spent the afternoon soaking in the beauty of the jungle, watching Steve catch crabs, and enjoying one of our favorite hikes yet. On our way back to the boat, we stopped at some beautiful spots before realizing all our buddy boats had taken a weather window and sailed south. A local helped us get back to our boat, and we spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and prepping for our next crossing. The next day, before leaving, we cracked open the cocoa pods gifted to us by Jack Jimmy to make our own chocolate! Then, we took the famous Indian River Boat Tour, visiting the iconic house from Pirates of the Caribbean and spotting giant crabs and exotic birds along the way. By the afternoon, it was time to lift anchor and set sail back to Martinique for boat parts. This 2024 Leopard PC has been significantly upgraded for fully off-grid cruising. The owner's version has 3 staterooms and two heads. With the advantage of two helms, a couple can easily cruise this boat in all conditions. Most time will be spent on the large flybridge with lots of seating and 360 degree views. During our boat test in Port Pin Rolland (South of France), we were able to see for ourselves what you get on the water with platform measuring 1,500 square feet (139.5 m²), a surface area almost 20% larger than is offered by the competition. The integral deck instead of a trampoline is able to offer both a forward cockpit and a real beach club area at the stern - connected to a hydraulic platform - but also optimal rigidity. To keep weight under control, the yard has used Catana technology, implementing carbon structural bulkheads. While the overall design remains in keeping with the Bali style, the coachroof is slightly larger, with narrower side decks. On board, you’ll find the opening forward door, the saloon-cockpit (a true Bali signature) and the famous tilting aft door. The galley, chart table/desk and cabins (of which there are anywhere from 3 to 6, depending on the version) are all designed in an XXL spirit that should satisfy the most demanding owners in terms of comfort. The saloon can accommodate no less than 12 guests. Wir besuchen den örtlichen Gendarmen aus Frankreich, um ordnungsgemäß einzuklarieren. Am örtlichen ATM füllen wir unsere Bargeldbestände auf. Der ATM in den Gambier-Inseln soll öfter mal nicht bestückt zu sein. Am Sonntag gehen wir erneut zum Gottesdienst. Uns begeistert vor allem der Gesang und die Zwanglosigkeit der Gemeinde. Wie in anderen Ländern bleiben jedoch viele Bänke leer. Nach einer Stunde verlassen wir allerdings den Gottesdienst – das dauert uns einfach zu lang. Stunden später kommen wir noch einmal an der Kirche vorbei. Es findet gerade ein Jugendgottesdienst statt. Das Engagement der Gemeinde sowie des örtlichen Pfarrers ist enorm. Unser Interesse gilt vor allem den Magasin - den Supermärkten. Die beste Auswahl hat JoJo`s und wir stocken unsere Bestände kräftig auf. Ab 10.000 XPF wird kostenlos ans Boot geliefert. Kein Problem für uns, denn die Preise sind so absurd, dass wir ungewollt in ganz anderen Größenordnungen unterwegs sind. Das Versorgungsschiff Nukuhau legt lang ersehnt in Otepa an. Emsig werden alle möglichen Versorgungsgüter entladen. Container, Baumaterialien, Treibstoff und, was uns besonders interessiert, Lebensmittel. Plötzlich sind die Gänge im JoJo`s vollgestopft mit gerade eingetroffenen Lebensmitteln. Frische Dinge, wie Früchte und Gemüse, gibt es allerdings weiterhin nicht. Dafür ist die Nukuhau von Tahiti aus einfach zu lange unterwegs. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen? Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Seit vielen Jahren war eine Weltumsegelung mein (Hannes) großer Traum, den ich berufsbedingt zum Renteneintrittsalter verwirklichen wollte. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Plan International ist ein internationales Kinderhilfswerk. Auf unserer Reise wollen wir nicht nur in Traumbuchten chillen sondern Programmländer von Plan besuchen und die dortige Arbeit dokumentieren. Boatbuilder Ben Harris is seen here making the keel casting mold, intending to cast an iron keel in accordance with yacht designer John Alden's original MALABAR IV plans. We thought this would be interesting to see before moving on to the start of the framing process (video coming soon). Between then and now, there's been a lot of consideration as to whether this is the best option for the build. Would you take a purist approach and honour the original design or home-cast a lead keel? Videos coming soon will cover framing, the decision on a keel casting material, preparation for casting, talking to a naval architect for an overview of MALABAR IV's design.
