This Azimut 50, Edenroc, is an elegant Italian-designed flybridge motor yacht offering generous space below and on deck. Der weite Pass gilt als einfach. Heute brandet jedoch das Meer auf die Einfahrt und auf die angrenzenden Riffe. Während der Fahrt hierher habe ich den ganzen Tag die wenigen AIS-Signale verfolgt, die die Zufahrt passieren. Alle tun dies mehr oder weniger an der selben Stelle. Auch wir finden an dieser Stelle eine Durchfahrt durch das wirre Wellenbild. Da bis zum Sonnenuntergang noch Zeit ist, fahren wir direkt durch zur Southeast Anchorage. Hier schläft der Wind für die nächsten Tage ein und beschert uns die wunderbarsten Drohnenaufnahmen. Aus der Vogelperspektive erkennt man die Struktur der Landschaft am besten. Ein Atoll ist ein ringförmiges Riff, das die Form einer untergegangenen Vulkaninsel nachzeichnet. Außen brandet das Meer gegen das Riff, wo das Meer unmittelbar einige hundert Meter abfällt. Innen ist meist Ententeich also ruhiges Wasser. Hier befinden sich Palmen bestandene Korallenstrände. Die ringförmigen Landmassen zwischen Außenriff und Innenwasserfläche erreichen zum Teil nur eben die Wasseroberfläche und sind somit aus der Froschperspektive nicht zu erkennen. Teilweise ragen sie aber auch wenige Meter über die Wasseroberfläche. Dann nennt man die erkennbaren Inseln Motu. Diese sind oft von Kanälen unterbrochen, manchmal sind sie aber auch Kilometer lang.
