This day sailing was not at all what we expected, very wet and wild, as we enter the rainy season. We get acquainted with thousands of local jellyfish and the peace of a quiet island as we explore Le Gosier in Guadeloupe. ============== 🔔Subscribe now and join us on a life-changing adventure. Our goal is to complete a circumnavigation and we recently transitioned to a performance catamaran and are madly in love with our Outremer 52. We worked with Outremer in France (with the help of Google Translate) to launch our boat project and start our journey as sailing vagabonds. While it’s not a race or speed test, we are doing our first Bluewater crossing this year and we are excited to see AWEN stretch her legs and dance on the water. Join us as we share what we’re learning and attempt this new life of travel and adventure on the ocean. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve our YouTube vlogging skills. Our goal isn’t to make our life a movie, it’s to give back to what others have shared with us. Holly and Stephane are formerly from the San Francisco Bay Area but have a home in Tahoe. Our 'someday' plan was to sell our belongings, buy a boat, and, with reckless abandon, sail away to visit distant lands, which we did starting in 2020. You can follow our transition and journey in our candid podcast, Covert Castaway, wherever you listen. You can also follow every stop we’ve made with pictures and blogs and stream our podcast directly on our website. ================================= #sailing #guadeloupe #catamaranlife #oceanadventure #outremer #sailing #catamaran #outremer #boatlife #catamaran #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailboats #stayhealthy #learning #vlog #podcast #live #motivation #travel #nomad #boattour #sailingadventure #bucketlist #adventure #nomad #retirement #adventureawaits #ocean #learning #youtubecommunity #youtubelife #vlog #youtubechannel #performance #weather #SwN&x% #thunderstorm #scubadiving #rainforest © Sailing AWEN

You can sign up for Jeff’s Offshore Cruising course by going to https://www.boatersuniversity.com/ This Offshore Cruising Tip is called, “Through hulls”. Through hulls are vital operational features that every boat owner needs to understand. Many owners take through hulls for granted and don’t give them much thought. We’d like to encourage you to remember their vital roles. We recommend that you identify the location and purpose of each through hull on your boat. As part of your check lists and routines we suggest you test regularly and make sure each through hull is working – it can be freely opened and closed. When they aren’t used, they can “freeze” or become stubborn. Through hulls that supply raw water to strainers seem to get more service since they are closed off to clean out the strainers, then re-opened. Other through hulls, like deck drains, are rarely adjusted since they are almost always left open. “Exercising” through hulls keeps them active and ready. One tip we recommend is using a PVC pipe as a “long reach” to check those through hulls tucked away outboard and also as a “persuader” that can give you the extra leverage you need to nudge a through hull that has become stiff due to lack of use. Never force a through hull, you could break it and open the flow of water. It is a good practice to have soft wooden bungs and a soft blow hammer nearby to plug a broken through hull and stop the inflow of raw water. If your boat is hauled out you can be a bit more aggressive, but if they are really stuck, they may need to be disassembled or replaced. To learn more about preparing for safe cruising, we invite you to sign up for “Offshore Cruising – Preparing Craft and Crew” and learn why it has become one of the most popular classes offered.
