Most sailing cruisers wait for the right sailing conditions before going anywhere. There are times, however, when the wind dies and you have to bite the bullet and put the engine on. Overall, however, fuel consumption is low. When we took 18 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean we only used 4 gallons of Diesel and most of that was for running the generator!
