Just as we were about to set sail here in Greece from the island Poros, our wind sensor suddenly stopped working. No wind direction, no wind speed. Not ideal when you're navigating open waters. Maybe it had been a bird? Or sun and salt damage? Or just one strong gust too many. Whatever the cause, I had to climb up the mast, attached to a line and helped with a winch. And ofcourse the new windmeter! So up I went — 22 meters high at the top of our catamaran’s mast and the camera rolling! I filmed the whole thing. Gardening in these remote islands is more then just a hobbie but an essential practice vital for survival. Walking barefoot through rough terrain to find the areas with the most suitable soil, sections of forest are burnt and cleared with basic hand tools such as machete and axe. The trees are then removed or used for stabilising the soil. This is when the women of the village come together to dig and plant the seeds of various staples. Today Poppy learns the way of planting a variety of yams that will later be remembered as 'Poppy's yams', signifying not only the day that a yachtie came to learn, but also get her hands dirty and help the local community. This act of unity is why these villagers have been able to thrive off growing their own food for so many generations. SUV runs into light pole at T with stoplight, not sure in this area how this would happen, you are on a 40 MPH side road that meets a T. Don't know how much you can see, but they really hit the pole hard, the lights at the top of the pole fell, and the SUV caved in most of their hood.

The first day of racing at SLYC for the 2024 season did not have a lot of wind but did create some great images as the fleet search for the horizon which was not there.
