After crossing the Atlantic, we finally reached Cadiz, Spain — but with our starboard engine controls broken, docking turned into a high-stakes challenge. I had to throttle manually from the engine room while the captain shouted commands over a walkie-talkie. One wrong move, and it could have been a disaster. Oggi ci svegliamo con il desiderio di scendere a terra, fare una camminata. Ma il meteo non è troppo d’accordo. Se in barca non vuoi vivere brutte sorprese, è meglio imparare a rimetterti alle sue decisioni. Di certo un esercizio perfetto per chi è solito esercitare controllo su ciò che lo circonda! Quindi senza forzare le cose, decidiamo di fare un bagno. Ragazzi che acqua calda, uno splendore. Peccato che le temperature così calde siano causa di stagione di intense attività di uragani. Quest’anno pare sia destinato ad assistere a qualcosa di forte. Ed ecco perché il 5 giugno molliamo gli ormeggi. Oggi abbiamo scelto di pulire le murate. Perchè? Perché vedere Julia di nuovo così splendente ci ha dato una gratificazione incredibile. E oggi, la nostra domenica, nonostante un meteo non dei migliori, ha avuto modo ugualmente di essere un giorno che ci ha riempito gli occhi e il cuore. Andrea

The name “Quartersplash” comes from the second owner who raced cars and almost broke the land speed record in the quarter mile dash. We are the third owner and purchased Quartersplash nearly three years ago in La Paz, BCS, but circumstances have changed upon the purchase of a home within a few miles of Puerto Escondido marina. She is light, nimble, and beautiful. We have enjoyed our time on the Sea with her and hope to find someone else who enjoys her as much as we did. Quartersplash is an ideal Sea of Cortez exploration vessel. Very stable, economical and comfortable platform sailing or at anchor. We made numerous additions and upgrades to Quartersplash. This a boat that is at home on the hook, dockside, or underway. She is an excellent sailing boat and comfortable to be on while offshore or at anchor. It is easily sailed single-handed as all lines lead back to the helm which has an electric winch. The helm can be fully enclosed in the event of inclement weather. The dodger provides excellent visibility and protection. Instrumentation includes a new (2022) Furuno depth sounder/fish finder; Raymarine Wheel Pilot, chart plotter, two USB outlets and an AC at the helm. Per il momento le isole inglesi ci sono piaciute tutte (quelle viste, chiaramente). Sarà il fascino inglese, chissà. Ci svegliamo presto per dirigerci all’ufficio immigrazione. Dietro suggerimento, puntiamo Road Town, sull’isola di Tortola. Finiti gli impegni burocratici, torniamo a bordo per lavorare fino a tarda sera. Domani rimarremo qui per fare spesa e lavatrici, poi ci sposteremo verso Virgin Gorda, paradiso in terra.
