Is it safe to sail in a deep canyon? Sure! If you watch the wind and weather closely, have the right equipment, and familiarize yourself with how mountainous terrain affects the wind. Also, always carry the appropriate safety gear and practice your emergency and storm skills (man overboard, hove-to, reefing, anchoring, etc.) This is me solo sailing my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat in Utah's stunning Flaming Gorge along the Green River. hello! It has been a rough few weeks onboard with working through all of the possible routes and weather windows to sail through the Bahamas during what is supposed to be a very active hurricane season. We would have been rushing through and that just seemed silly. So, we’ve come to the difficult decision that it safest for us to sail north until early fall before making our way back south.
