What is Raiding? At our events, which span four days of sailing, each day's races (or non-competitive group sailing, depending on which boat you're on) are divided between our smaller craft and larger yachts. Routes are set by Matt and most participants are lined up for the starting sequence! Cream tea or a picnic moored up in a cove, the days vary depending on where we sail and the weather of course. Evenings are spent unwinding by the water with a cold drink, followed by a delicious meal and the day's prize-giving, always full of good humour. Some of the hardier sailors stay aboard their Swallow, while others opt for a more luxurious stay in nearby accommodations. Unlike traditional racing, raiding is all about camaraderie, strategy, and skill—without the use of engines. It’s just wind, water, and teamwork! We were in the midst of making a mistake, much like last winter. Fully engaged in various projects, a screwdriver here, a wrench there... and suddenly, we place something on our beautifully lacquered dining table, causing deep scratches on the tabletop ✨ We’ve agreed that we bought the boat to use it, so it’s not like we’re walking on tiptoes to avoid wear and tear on the boat. Where we can, we take preventive measures. Therefore, the dining table, which has turned into a work table over the winter, has been covered with an old tablecloth to avoid unnecessary wear 🛠️ The scratches and marks we’ve made throughout the boat are annoying when they happen. One tells oneself, “if only I had done it this way, it would never have happened.” But we’ve gotten better at saying “oh well,” and as time goes on, the scars remind us of a specific time or episode aboard the boat ⛵️
