We bring the boat to a stop by heaving to. This is where we tack the boat but don't touch the sheet, so the headsail lies 'aback'. Once we have the wind on the main driving us forward, and the wind on the headsail pushing us back, and with the helm turned towards the wind, the boat will come to a stop. I can make you one of these if you like. I have some live-edge slabs still available. Shoot me a message. I milled these hardwood slabs back on the farm before I left. They are Mountain Ash. I finished them here in the marina and they work great on a sailboat or rv...or anywhere that you need a small table that pivots out of the way.
