I was watching one of those videos about how to be healthier, happier, more productive by a beautiful American. As so often, they were pontificating on the things that are essential parts of a daily routine. One of the most popular trends for that at the moment is how essential it is to go outside first thing in the morning and get 10 minutes of sunlight. Clearly, they have never lived in North Wales (or Manchester where we ere before). We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). 🪢 Sunday Boat Tip [2/52] 🪢 I think you would be surprised by the number of boats we see with flapping sails as they try to motor against the wind 😬 I’m saying you should stop this now! Not only will you save the sails to last longer, you will also ✨ Increase your boat speed ✨ Decrease your fuel consumption ✨ Make the boat go smoother in the waves ✨ Less noise Motor sailing can have its benefits, and even though we prefer sailing it would be lying to say we never give a little support with the diesel engine, especially sailing behind islands where the wind is usually all over the place. By giving a little extra push with the engine we can go higher up towards the wind or sail over choppy waves in conditions that would normally be to light. If you still want to go dead straight into the wind? DROP YOUR SAILS!! They are not doing ANYTHING good by just flopping like that! Share this to someone who you think should be a little kinder to their sails 😉
These are the Superlight versions of Brompton’s folding bikes, which, with several structural components and accessories made from titanium, weight nearly a kilogram less than the all-steel versions. Very handy. An advantage of the Garcia Exploration 45 over other yachts is that when sitting on the hard it is not as high off the ground. The centreboard is raised and the boat is resting on its hull at the front, with a low support at the rear. Some of the keel boats around us are scary high. Eek!
