The people of Porto hold a huge celebration for the festival of São João (Saint John) on 23rd June. And by luck we were in Porto on the day after the festival, when the Rabelo Boat Regatta is held on the River Douro in the heart of the City. These shallow, flat bottom boats were originally used to transport the Port wine from the vineyards on the steep slopes of the extensive Douro River to the wineries in Porto, for ageing. These traditional boats were beginning to disappear by the early 1980s, so the Winery Brotherhood initiated the regatta, in which all of the major wineries are represented by their own boat each year.
We visited the incredible Merrivale Prehistoric Settlement on Dartmoor, near Tavistock (https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/merrivale-prehistoric-settlement/) This amazing, 4500 year old site has everything you could want - a standing stone causeway, 2 stone circles, a cist (stone tomb), and huge bronze age village! Its free to visit with a car park only a short walk away. An excellent family fay out - fans of Outlander would particularly love it! #shorts
J109 Going to Red hit the front early in the Portaferry Regatta 2025. Big Sails win big races and fortune favoured the brave with the Redline Racing Team making the big call to set the A2 at the start and blast downwind to enter the lough at over 15 knots over the ground. With the sun shinning both on the bay and the crew it made a great spectacle for the passengers on the Strangford Ferry. The team at bottom up boats hope you are enjoying the short bits from the 2025 racing season.
This Friday we’re dropping the next episode of Short Stories, which is guaranteed to be our most exciting episode yet. A couple of weeks ago, we went up to the Great Barrier Reef and spent a week onboard a 58-foot Gamefishing boat in the hunt for a giant 1,000 pound marlin. The biggest in the world! “Life is short, enjoy it!” is our personal life and company motto and oh boy was this week an enjoyable one. Full video dropping this Friday - Here’s a little sneak peek!
