Merry Christmas from the Pioneer Sailing Trust! Wishing You a Joyful Holiday Season As the year comes to a close, we want to extend our warmest wishes to you, our valued service users and partners. May your holidays be filled with joy, peace, and cherished moments with loved ones. We are incredibly grateful for your continued trust and collaboration. Your support has been instrumental to our success, and we look forward to another year of working together. During the holiday season, our offices will be operating on a reduced schedule. We therefore apologise for any delays in our replies. From all of us at the Pioneer Sailing Trust, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Layline tactics should start becoming a priority/focus before approaching them. Avoid arriving early to the layline generally, since this will limit options and potential for further gain. Excess time on layline can result in wind changes or tactical penalties, almost all unfavorable: • Header: Results in wasted distance sailed while opposite tack boats gain • Lift: Results in overstanding, possibly VMG penalty, wasted distance sailed • Tactical Penalty: A boat or group of boats may tack on you At some point, if positioned to leeward or “leading boats” on the short tack, you’ll begin to consider the layline. Don’t wait for that “miracle shift” to cross the boats to windward. Instead, tack early so they’re not as tempted to tack on you. Avoid the layline “train” and enjoy a great lane below for the majority of the sailing distance back towards the rhumbline/mark. If there are too many boats to boats to windward, it might not be possible to get a lane with clean air below layline and options are limited. In that case, consider continuing past starboard layline. Make sure to go far enough so others are not tempted to go that far, and you can continue in clean air all the way to the mark. Consider wind speed and air temperature, since both effects the area of disturbed wind. Also, consider wind speed and the efficacy of a lower mode in that particular velocity. What is ISA Online? BBC Earth has asked me to participate in their Real Happiness Project. The aim of the project is to inspire people to enjoy nature because a study has shown that being exposed to nature, even if it is just virtually, makes people happy. Here's a little contribution on how living on my sailboat Karl / the ocean has brought so much happiness to my life. Comment below how nature makes you happy or share this video to spread the word :) thank you!!! And thanks to BBC Earth for letting Karl and me be part of this awesome project! Enjoy and Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Despite an earthquake, a fire and constant erosion of an island that continually moves and reshapes itself, the Troubridge Island Lighthouse has up till now survived. As this erosion continues to eat towards the foundations of the tower it is very much under continued threat. #troubridgeisland #southaustralia #australia #lighthouse #circumnavigationaustralia #seawind1260 #seawindcats
