It's not just for arrival - you can come to this area during your stay and have a seat on the bench - very tranquil. One guest was having a cuppa coffee and reading a paper when I walked up. Left the craziness of Khao San Central, and found a much nicer area of Bangkok to stay in - Wat Tha Phra. A neighborhood with tiny river canals, narrow alleys and almost no tourists. So could do what we love the most - walk for miles without much of a destination, catching a glimpse of the daily lives of local people.
