Florida's nickname is "The Sunshine State" Not always true in winter, as you can see. We were anchored on our Skoota 28 powercat at Peck Lake, just south of Stuart. A strong cold front passed through and we had squalls/rainbows/wind for two days. Pretty miserable for all the boats at anchor

Competent Crew Course details: ➜ https://www.firstclasssailing.com/rya-courses/competent-crew This short clip of a Competent Crew course shows how to position the sheet lead car. The 'car' is something the genoa sail sheet passes through and we can adjust it's position along the deck to alter the angle that the sheet pulls down of the genoa. You will see how we need to set the sheet lead car for the headsail to the forward end of the track to allow the sail to adopt a fuller shape. We set it like this when the wind is coming from behind the boat. When we're sailing to windward (when the wind is forward of the beam of the yacht), we want the sail to have a flatter shape, so set the sheet lead car to the aft end of the track. ** About the RYA Competent Crew course in Southampton ** The RYA Competent Crew course is the perfect introduction for beginners who want to get into sailing and is specifically designed for those with little to no sailing experience. THALIA is an astonishing throwback to the earliest, 19th-Century days of organised yachting, yet she’s a thoroughly practical, easily handled classic yacht. Wanhill of Poole is a name etched in the history of that period, and THALIA carries that direct lineage with her, together with the old world charm and amazing looks that have rescued this characterful cutter more than once from the chainsaw. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/626/THALIA Her Millennium restoration undertaken with skill and passion, honoured and enhanced in current ownership, has ensured a long future life, surely well into her third Century. In recent years THALIA has taken part in transatlantic adventures her original designer and builder couldn’t have dreamed of, and she’s been a cherished family cruiser-racer closer to home.
