The Boat Life bought a new camera (tripod gear sort of) gadget to make more videos and better. This is NOT a paid ad. I just like my new toy and gadgets and for us (Melissa and Nic) it is part of living on a yacht. If you want to see more about my camera equipment in the future let me know and I will try to make more videos about the gear we use. That's The Boat Life. Thanks for watching.
The Double Over Hand Knot is a variation on the Over Hand knot that creates a larger stopper by adding and additional loop in the main part of the knot. The larger stopper of the Double Over Hand Knot is useful for thinner lines which may slip through the cleat, pulley or eye that the rope is running through. For a full tutorial follow the link below. https://youtu.be/JJcNIHOLJVg Learning how to tie a double over hand knot only takes seconds, most sailors have most likely tied one even if they don't know what it is called. Another advantage the double over hand not has over the single is that it is more secure prior to any load being applied to it. This results in less chance of the double hand knot coming undo. The double loop of the knot also makes it easier to untie after load has been applied. The team has at bottom up boats has loads of knot video tutorials, watch to the playlist below to learn more. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMoCfFBA9IMUcOoZy5QT-o66DM8uHukkH If you want to know even more knots why not pick up a copy of the definitive book on knots. The Ashley Book of Knot has approximately 3900 different kinds, from simple hitches to “Marlinspike Seamanship.” Mr. Ashley has included almost everything there is to know about them. Precisely named and classified (some new ones for the first time officially), they can be easily found in the big index. He tells when they appeared, something about their history, and what they are good for. . https://amzn.to/3fkisle We hope you enjoyed todays video, thanks for stopping by and supporting Bottom up Boats, as an amazon associate we get commission from associated sales. Sailing around the island of the South Pacific is beautiful but the seas can be challenging. The seas state is BIG, the winds have turned up and we are just bobbing around out here in our catamaran hoping for it to end. Join us for the adventures of WE, every Wednesday a new episode of our sailing travels around the world! @WEsail
A yacht that completely rewrites what a 295-foot superyacht can look and feel like. Built in 2020 by @ulsteingroup, Olivia O is one of the very few private yachts to feature the signature X-Bow design—a forward-sloping bow traditionally reserved for commercial ships navigating the harshest seas. This isn't just for looks-it's a purposeful innovation that reduces pitching, enhances fuel efficiency, and ensures greater stability in rough conditions. Her profile is unmistakable: angular, industrial, and fiercely futuristic. With a 52.5-foot (16-meter) beam, she boasts a massive volume of 4,989 GT, making space for amenities like a cinema, gym, wellness center, and an entire owner's deck. And unlike most yachts of this size, she's powered by twin Caterpillar diesel-electric engines—a rare feature that allows for smoother, quieter cruising and better energy distribution. With exterior styling by @espen.oeino and interiors by @droulersarchitecture, Olivia O is a true fusion of Scandinavian minimalism and Italian sophistication. A yacht for someone who wants to stand apart-not just in size, but in vision. @yachtworld
