Why sail solo around the world, without modern technology? There are a lot of reasons. But one of them has always been bigger than sailing. I want women and girls of every age to look at adventures like this and think, why not me? Girls like my nieces. I grew up surrounded by strong women, and I know how much that shaped the person I became. I had women around me who showed me that I could figure things out, take on challenges and go after what I wanted. And I want to be that person for someone else too. Sailing is still a world where you’ll find far more men than women, especially when you get into offshore sailing and races like this one. I don’t want that to be a reason not to try. You don’t have to sail around the world. You don’t even have to sail. I just hope that somewhere, a girl sees me out here and thinks that maybe she can do the thing she’s been told isn’t really for her. Learn. Get good at it. Take up your space.
