Seacocks are bronze valves in a boat and are used as a safety measure for closing off holes below the water line and keeping water out of the boat for either maintenance or emergencies. We have 4 total on Seawind, and one of them has been giving us trouble for the past couple of years. I cleaned and greased this particular seacock, and ever since, it’s seeped a bit of water into the boat. The best way to ensure the tails of your rope stay neat and tidy is to whip the ends. If you want to take your finish to the next level then take the time too added a loop to the end of the rope. In addition to stopping the end of the rope from fraying it gives your halyards the added benefit of having a built in mousing loop that allows you to easier replacing or remove your halyards for the winter with a mousing line.
