Welcome to Kalos! We encountered two Orcas as we sailed with one dog and 5 crew 900 nautical miles down the coast of Baja California over an 18 day period. Tisha spotted the black dorsal fin and we all were in disbelief as the first one was swimming upside down right towards our port beam only to submerge at the last second just missing our keel. The second one split off and went for our rudder but luckily they both left us alone after this brief but frightening yet amazing experience! You can see the entire Sailing Baja Video on our channel https://youtu.be/0VzfQGWIbIQ Enjoy and thanks for watching! Mike and Tisha ❤️ #killerwhales #orcaencounter #orcawhale #sailboatdog #boatdog
Could you really live on a sailboat for just $20,000? In this episode, we’re building the perfect budget cruiser — the legendary Catalina 30 — and transforming it into a self-sufficient liveaboard for under twenty grand. We’re adding 800 watts of solar power, a 300 amp-hour lithium battery, fixing all the classic Catalina leaks, and finding used sails that still have plenty of miles left in them. It’s the affordable dream setup that proves you don’t need a million dollars to live on the water — just a bit of passion and a lot of butyl tape. Join me as I break down what to buy, what to fix first, and how to make a classic Catalina 30 into the perfect off-grid tiny home on the sea. The mission here at Lady K Sailing has always been to get more people sailing, more easily — and I couldn’t do it without the patrons who make these videos possible.
