Catana built her for her original owner, who had previously circumnavigated on a Catana 582. Taking the knowledge learned on that circumnavigation, he met with the Catana's designers and builders to develop one of the most luxurious bluewater cruising catamarans ever launched. Her current owners purchased her in Spain and moved her to the same areas of France where she had been built to complete an extended refit. In Canet-en-Roussillon over 5000kg of weight was removed that has greatly improved her performance. Another 1000kg of weight was removed in 2024 with the changeover to Lithium from AGM. After a few season of coming to grips with our Mumm 36 racing yacht and optimising her sail plan we were finally in a positions to win races. A stripped out racing yacht like a Mumm 36 needs to be sailed on the limit at all times to keep you in races against boats with more forgiving IRC ratings. For the team at Bottom Up Boats it more often than not it came down to the crew work if you wanted to separate yourself from the chasing pack. One of the most magical memories from our time on the Mumm 36 was this peel from the Code Zero to the A-Sail on a short course race in the season ending frosties regatta at Strangford Lough Yacht club. This slick transition with the crew working in complete harmony allowed the team on GTR to maintain top speed during the second to last mark round which help give them the race win by less than 10 seconds.
