Two big launches at opposite ends of the world. On top, the 32m Ultim trimaran Gitana 18 headed out from her base in Lorient on the west coast of France for her maiden sail. Down under the Kiwis slipped their dock lines in Auckland to take their newly reconfigured AC75 out for its first sail. Both are big steps forward, both were carefully choreographed affairs and both represent the first steps in two new generations at the very leading edge of the sport.

We left to visit family and came back to wet bilges…we know Kotor Bay in Montenegro had severe rainstorms while we were gone. In preparation of being away from the boat we removed our Bimini and dodger which opened up the companionway for direct wind driven rain to penetrate. This is the result. We need to investigate our auto bilge pump as it appears to be locked up. In the meantime Shelly sopped up the water and Cass worked through a solution for the louvered doors. The first week for the season ending frosties regatta at SLYC was sailed under grey skies with big breeze. The crew on the Sigma 33 Squawk showed the rest of the YTC 2 yachts how to handle the spinnaker with ease. They setup to go deep and flew down the last run on the way to second place in Race 2. The team at bottom up boats hope you are enjoying the footage from the final regatta of the 2024 sailing season.
