Two big launches at opposite ends of the world. On top, the 32m Ultim trimaran Gitana 18 headed out from her base in Lorient on the west coast of France for her maiden sail. Down under the Kiwis slipped their dock lines in Auckland to take their newly reconfigured AC75 out for its first sail. Both are big steps forward, both were carefully choreographed affairs and both represent the first steps in two new generations at the very leading edge of the sport.

If there’s one stretch of water that can split opinions in Europe it surely has to be the North Sea. It’s a tough place, famous for tough weather. So, when it comes to the North Sea Regatta it’s hardly surprising that this event has also developed something of a reputation

#tbt to the dramatic start of The Ocean Race Europe 2025 in Kiel, Germany. Just minutes after the start, a collision between Team Allagrande MAPEI Racing and Team Holcim-PRB sent shockwaves through the fleet. While the damage forced both teams to retire from Leg 1, the story didn't end there. Following a monumental repair effort and a display of pure grit, both crews rejoined the race for Leg 2 in Portsmouth. Their resilience paid off in spectacular fashion - most notably for Team Holcim-PRB, who fought their way back to secure a 3rd place podium finish overall. It’s not about how you start; it’s about how you finish.
