Corti Creare

Not with random tips, but with structured practice. In our 2-day training we drill the basics until they’re repeatable, then build real confidence with: crew communication, anchoring decisions, reefing + weather calls, and pressure drills. The biggest shift? You stop trying to look impressive and start being reliable. That’s what makes people trust you onboard. If your goal is to become a better skipper, reach out and let’s do it together.

I wanted to show you exactly how a boat anchor behaves on the sea floor. I found a nice popular anchorage where the tide had gone out, exposing the same sandy bottom that the boats in the distance are anchoring in, so we can see exactly what is going on, without the sea being in the way. If you measure the distance from the bow roller to the seabed at high tide, and pay out at least five times that much chain, which is known as 5:1 scope, the anchor should untangle itself and reset in most situations. More than a century ago, writer Lafcadio Hearn observed that Japan viewed life, family, and community differently from the modern West. Less linear. More circular. After years traveling through Japan’s longevity hotspots, I increasingly wonder whether one hidden cost of the modern nuclear family is the erosion of intergenerational relevance. This Short accompanies a longer Field Note exploring aging, family structure, and what kind of social architecture helps people remain connected, purposeful, and woven into community deep into old age. https://www.nevertoolateacademy.com/post/the-hidden-cost-of-the-nuclear-family About me: I’m Lowell Sheppard, 71, sailor, author, and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. I’m the Founder of the Never Too Late Academy and Special Advisor to the International Forum. Through Japan Solo Field Notes, I explore aging, place, community, and longevity across Japan. #Longevity #Japan #Community #HealthyAging #JapanSolo #Family #Aging #LifeLessons #JapaneseCulture #Intergenerational
