New Zealand is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, places to travel. Back in 2017 I spent five months there spearfishing and freediving throughout the entire country. Exploring not just on land, but under the sea as well was an amazing experience. The kelp forests were especially fun to dive through. Here you see me diving in the Coromandel Peninsula. After finding a cool rock formation, I knew I had to dive down and see what was underneath. Although there was no fish, it was still an amazing freedive and one that I'll never forget! . . We have a close encounter with large illegal Chinese fishing boats (poachers) while sailing in heavy seas 150 miles off the coast of Uruguay during a winter storm in the South Atlantic Ocean. The fishing boats were later pursued by the Uruguay Navy and Coast Guard, caught, and arrested. These boats were maneuvering dangerously and aggressively on a collision course with our sailboat, in heavy seas and low visibility, during a southern ocean storm, while sailing at night, in disregard of international navigational rules, and with improper AIS signals.
