Here are 3 reasons why we bought a steel boat; 1. They are strong! We want to travel anywhere including choppy seas and transatlantic crossings without worrying about the fragility of our boat. Steel sailboats have a more rigid structure and are robust so they can better withstand grazes, rubs, and bumps when in the open water. 2. They are stable! Though not as light and fast as fiberglass boats, the weight of steel boats make them more steady in choppy waters and that means reduce chances of seasickness. 3. We are going electric! Since we were buying a used boat, we needed to select a structure that could be alter in order install our electric motor and a steel structure is highly adaptable. I lived on a 1964 Angleman Ketch Sailboat. I restored much of it but it had much to go. Our "dock ducks" liked me in particular. I may have shared my cat food with them at times.
