Since our first visit, Cumberland Island has become the “magical” or “enchanting” place on the ICW. And how lucky are we to be able to visit it by private vessel? We enjoy exploring all parts of the island, from the trails and marsh to the beaches and mansion ruins, but it’s the wildlife and remoteness that keeps us wanting to come back. Words and pictures cannot describe the experience as you immerse yourself under the canopy of mossy oaks while hearing the chirps of birds, the whinnying of horses, and the rustling leaves made by the armadillos. Nel tentativo di entrare nel porto turistico di Catanzaro Lido la barca a vela Meridian Chaser, battente bandiera canadese, si distrugge sugli scogli del molo . La causa si puo ascrivere a diverse circostanze contrarie quali il poco fondale, la risacca , il forte vento di scirocco che rendeva pericolosissimo l'avvicinamento e principalmente ad una cima impigliata nell'asse dell'elica. Infatti in altri filmati si vede la barca procedere con il motore fuoribordo ,solitamente in uso al tender, acceso ma poco funzionale. Risultato un disperso , per altro conosciuto in loco, dove aveva sostato tempo addietro in transito con una barca diversa. Tempestivo l'arrivo di carabinieri e vigili del fuoco.

The people of Porto hold a huge celebration for the festival of São João (Saint John) on 23rd June. And by luck we were in Porto on the day after the festival, when the Rabelo Boat Regatta is held on the River Douro in the heart of the City. These shallow, flat bottom boats were originally used to transport the Port wine from the vineyards on the steep slopes of the extensive Douro River to the wineries in Porto, for ageing. These traditional boats were beginning to disappear by the early 1980s, so the Winery Brotherhood initiated the regatta, in which all of the major wineries are represented by their own boat each year.
