Sign up here (https://tinyurl.com/mryhmwrd) to receive our free quarterly magazine about Hunter's Yard, the Norfolk Broads area, local life and heritage skills. Why? Does it matter? Light-hearted fun at the yard. Percy and Elf end up on the transom from 'Teasel' part of the Swallows and Amazons films. Lullaby, the first yatch built at the yard, in 1932, played the part. Swallow, Amazon, Titmouse and the punt Dreadnought are all looked after at Hunter's Yard. Amazon is avaiable for hire and Swallow is being restored currently. The skills used at Hunter's Yard are both timeless and endangered, those of building and preserving hand-buit wooden boats of yesteryear. Many of the boats looked after by the yard are nearly a century old, but they still sail as if they were launched last week. 🔍 Did you know? The Hunter's Yard fleet comprises 14 classic cabin yachts, and various gaff-rigged 'half-deckers, each with its own story and charm. These vessels are not just for show - they're available for educational use, RYA sail training courses, and public hire! Hunter's Yard is run by the Norfolk Fleet Heritage Trust, a registered charity dedicated to public education, sail training & the preservation, conservation & maintenance of a unique, historic fleet of traditional Broads sailing craft, the boat sheds in which they were built & associated heritage craft skills Want to experience the Norfolk Broads on one of these historic beauties? We hear about new boat models all the time, but entirely new brands? Not so much. For the 2023 model year, manufacturer Fluid Motion (builder of Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats) has introduced the Solara brand, which includes 25- and 31-foot trailerable models. We spotted the queen of the fleet, the S-310 CW, at the Annapolis Boat Show this fall. BoatUS Magazine contributing editor Lenny Rudow takes you for a tour of these three exciting new models and shows you some unique features that make them perfect for family time or fishing. The Solara 250 models come with all the bells and whistles for around $200K, and the Solara 310 will run you $350K, also fully featured. This J109 lost control of it's spinnaker while sailing in the 2025 Scottish Series. With the tack line up and the halyard a 1/4 off the A-Sail quickly turned into a Kite Surfing rig and tried to accelerate the boat down win. A simple sailing manoeuvre in big breeze can turn into a sailing fail in seconds if the whole crew is not on top of their game. The crew needs to be co-ordinated and all the lines need to run freely to ensure the spinnaker makes it be to the boat as planned While we were not watching to figure out what lead to this our guess is the skipper was not running deep enough when the started the drop. If you are running square and have the kite behind the main it helps create a wind shadow which makes it easier to control as your crew race to complete the drop. Thanks one of the travelling Bottom Up Boats crew for sending on this lively action from a gusty day from the 2025 Scottish Series.
