This weekend people all over the country (and the world!) are greening their houses, their workplaces, and their cities in preparation for the holiday season. Why not let a boat be part of the fun?! Here in Gig Harbor, Washington we have a great maritime culture, and every year there is a holiday boat parade where people festoon their boats with lights, and circle the harbor after sunset. It's fun to view both from the water and from land, taking in the holiday lights from both sides. Whether your town has an event like ours, or not, there's no reason not to head to the water this holiday season and let the dinghies get some love too! Hope you'll join us in #GHBWDeckTheHulls and share your photos with us on social media!
Full test in Multihulls World N°196: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/vandal-46-explorer-a-4x4-of-the-seas-in-catamaran-mode ► The Vandal Marine brand was created by Dutch manufacturer Tenderworks, who specialize in tenders for megayachts. The main idea behind the project was to bring to market a true “all-terrain” powercat, inspired by workboats and featuring an innovative design with asymmetrical hulls linked by a central foil capable of optimizing the equation that combines speed/consumption/passage though the water. The aluminum hulls are protected by impressive thick scantlings, and the welded parts throughout the deck are impressive. The 46 Explorer is fitted out in a somewhat rustic fashion, with a single, relatively spartan double cabin. However, a number of customization options, such as the fabric enclosure for the flybridge enhance the level of comfort. According to the manufacturer, at 20 knots, fuel consumption is reduced by 30%, giving a range of over 200 miles. It’s worth noting that despite the foiling design, the Vandal is still perfectly capable of taking the ground – you’re either an explorer or you’re not... A second 60-foot (18 m) model is currently under study. Full test of the Vandal 46 Explorer to appear in a forthcoming issue. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Vandal Marine Architect: Jutson Marine Design Length overall: 46’ (14 m) Waterline length: 39’ (12 m) Beam: 14’ (4.4 m) Draft: 2’6” (0.8 m) Light displacement: 26,015 lbs (11.8 t) Powertrain: 2 x 425 HP Yamaha XTO Cruising speed: 20/28 knots Max speed: 40 knots Fuel: 333 US gal (1,260 l) Water: 79 US gal (300 l) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! The J109 is a fantastic racer - cruiser competitive across all wind ranges they are super stable in big breeze which allows you to drive the boat hard even when the puffs are above 20 knots. Come on board Bottom up Boats J109 "Going to Red" in race 1 of the Quoile 2 day regatta as we blast across the bottom reach at over 9 knots. With the A4 setting perfectly the crew are in complete control of the IRC 1 race. The crew is working perfectly to keep the boat flat and fast while setting up for the drop at kite at the bottom mark. The kite trimmer was making life easy for the skipper while keeping the boat at top speed, easing the kite into the puffs and trimming perfectly as the apparent wind moves forward as the boat speed build. Well done to the Redline Racing team who over came a few issue in race 2 to finish with 2 bullets after the first day Thank to the Quoile Yacht club located on the western shores of strangford lough for putting on a great day of racing. Look for more of the same tomorrow ........
