We won't take on the management of any co-owned boats but are happy to help you to find potential co-owners on a location basis – this is how it works: - If you’re interested in co-ownership get in touch with us. - If we know of someone in your area, with your permission we’ll put you in touch. - If we don’t know of someone we’ll make a location-based shout out, as seen on the video. - When someone responds, we’ll put you in touch to discuss your wants and priorities: What model of Dazcat/ Whether to race, cruise or both/ How many partners/ What type of contract etc. - When you’re ready you can come and talk to us about your boat and its requirements. - Of course we are happy to talk to you at any stage of your planning and offer a test sail as per our usual client service. For our first location shout out we have two people in the UK Solent area interested in a Dazcat 1295 build, to be ready for sail in 2022. They are looking for one or two more partners. One of these may want to upgrade plans to a 1495. We have another person interested in the US/ Canada Pacific NW region: Vancouver/ Seattle/ Portland. Have you ever wondered how we get the grain pattern on our bulkheads to match the doors? It’s easy really, our doors are cut out from the bulkheads. Our bulkheads are laminated in place, they are made of two, 15mm thick marine grade plywood panels bonded together, there is also 0.9-1.2mm thick Sapele mahogany veneer on each side. This is the wood you see once the bulkhead is finished and we like it to match the door, perfectly. Before the bulkhead can be fitted, if there is a doorway, it needs to be added. This poses a few problems. Because every boat is individually built, one boat differs from the next so each yacht uses wood from the same tree, and this keeps the colour and grain pattern consistent throughout, but cutting out a door from a bulkhead would cause the bulkhead to flex. Even at over 30mm (1 1/4 in) thick a little flex could cause a problem and make it difficult to close a door once it’s installed. For this reason, we cut out the door, add the laminated Sapele mahogany frame to the bulkhead and 6mm of solid Sapele mahogany around the door and then fit the door into the bulkhead and secure the two together. Only then do we fit the bulkhead into position on the yacht. Once the bulkhead is securely laminated in place, the doors are removed and labelled before varnishing. The doors and the bulkheads are varnished separately. The bulkheads remain unvarnished to allow the GRP laminate and glues that attach the bulkhead to the hull to bond fully with the wood.
