Day 15. Started the day with absolutely no wind. We were literally drifting… even going a bit backwards at times. Just slowly turning in circles, waiting for something to change. But eventually, the wind came back. Slowly, steadily, and we could start sailing again. I spent most of the day cooking. Prepping food for the next few days, making things easier for future us. Lunches, dinners, getting ahead while things were calm. And then… I made a chocolate croissant. As someone who’s gluten-free, that’s been one of the things I’ve missed the most. So being able to make one, on a boat, in the middle of the ocean, felt kind of unreal. Used the Omnia oven, and honestly, I love it. It just makes life out here feel a bit more normal. We ended the day on a high note. Karaoke, singing, just enjoying ourselves again. But before the night, it was back to business. The barometer dropped, which usually means one thing out here… more wind coming. A low pressure system on the way. So we reefed, prepped the boat, and got ready. Because this one might get a bit rough. 🌊 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. Winter has fully set in here in Newfoundland—and Arabella is surrounded by ice ❄️ When the harbor freezes, shifting ice sheets can grind against the hull with the tide. Here’s how we protect our liveaboard sailboat using a deicer (bubbler system) and a floating log buffer to keep the ice off the boat. Full episode is live on the channel - https://youtu.be/xLo4kUuuYKo #WinterSailing #BoatLife #Newfoundland #LiveaboardLife #FrozenHarbor #SailboatLife #ColdWeather #AdventureVlog #shorts -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A!
