Llamaremos virar a la acción de variar el lado de entrada del viento maniobrando velas y timón hasta cambiarlo de banda. Se llama virar por avante cuando orzamos con el timón hasta pasar el viento por la proa, también podemos virar en redondo (trasluchar) cuando cambiamos el viento arribando hasta pasarlo por la popa. Es una maniobra que, llevada a cabo en equipo, con suavidad, seguridad y precisión, consigues cambiar de rumbo y hacer que el barco no se pare. In this position here I can set myself up for my berth. I can see where I'm going here and at the bow because you use the bow and the movement on the bow to understand which way you're turning. And I can reach my gear lever. One thing I'm going to do before this berth, especially on a windy day is check to see if I've actually got the guy on the dock ready to take my lines. And I don't. But it looks like he's on his way. So I'm going to start this turn around now. Here's our man! Now ideally I do this without the bow thrusters or the stern thrusters just so that I know I've got control of that. Yes, I know, it was off-limits, you are not allowed to sail through the Grand Canal with your tender as a non-resident..... But hey, we are Dutch, to us 'no' means maybe there is a possibility. And we only have this one chance now that we are here with our sailboat and tender. So we just did it. And it was great, also a bit tricky through the narrow canals with a lot of waves and 10,000 other boats, check out our video of the trip in the small canals. There you can see very well that Venice is composed of 118 small islands connected by 400 bridges. We enjoyed how you could almost touch the houses and saw everyone in the city doing their thing (loading fruit into the boat, transporting guests).
