The 2021 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race started on Boxing Day, December 26th off Sydney Harbour, Australia. The 628.0nm race goes south and finishes at Hobart, Tasmania. Sweeping overall corrected time honors among the Doublehanders was Jules Hall and Jan ‘Clogs’ Scholten on the J/99 DISKO TROOPER- CONTENDER SAILCLOTH to gather the top prizes in Doublehanded IRC, ORC, and PHS Divisions. Remarkably, the J/99 DISKO TROOPER also won ORC Overall for the fleet (fully-crewed + doublehanders) by over 3 HOURS! It's been announced that the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit is in Trinidad and Tobago this week for coordinated operations with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, explaining the helicopters flying over Chaguaramas yesterday. One of the listed locations for the exercises is Teteron Barracks, a military Trinidadian base right near the shipyards where many foreign sailing vessels are stored, including ours. For context, this area is located approximately 13.5 miles from Venezuela. The U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain said the training is aimed at tackling transnational threats, strengthening regional stability, and improving disaster-response capabilities. Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force officials added that the exercises support their efforts to reduce the flow of guns and drugs into Trinidad and Tobago.
