So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true⊠we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Jag tĂ€nkte: kanske, kanske skulle Oscar kunna lĂ€sa den nu? Han har blivit sĂ„ otroligt mycket bĂ€ttre pĂ„ engelska sedan vi började resa. Han hör engelska varje dag, pratar med mĂ€nniskor frĂ„n hela vĂ€rlden och snappar upp nya ord hela tiden. SĂ„ jag tog med boken tillbaka till bĂ„ten. TvĂ„ dagar senare hade han lĂ€st ut hela boken. Och det var inte ens en vanlig bok. Det var en 3-i-1-bok. 280 sidor pĂ„ engelska. đđ NĂ€r vi reser fĂ„r barnen sprĂ„ket i sitt naturliga sammanhang. De behöver engelska för att förstĂ„ mĂ€nniskor, skyltar, spel och kompisar. Och jag hade faktiskt rĂ€tt tajming. Oscar hade redan lĂ€st alla svenska ungdomsböcker i bokhyllan ombord fyra gĂ„nger. Han var sugen pĂ„ nĂ„got nytt och spĂ€nnande och dĂ„ blev tröskeln att boken var pĂ„ engelska plötsligt inte sĂ„ stor. Motivationen att lĂ€sa nĂ„got nytt blev större Ă€n hindret att det var pĂ„ engelska.đđâ€ïž Tror du att barn lĂ€r sig sprĂ„k bĂ€ttre nĂ€r de faktiskt behöver sprĂ„ket? Over the past two years traveling through Japanâs longevity hotspots, I kept noticing something unexpected: Many older people practice haiku. This week in Tokyo, during the Humanities and Arts conference organized by IAFOR, I spent time with distinguished haiku poets Emiko Miyashita and Kyoko Uchimura. What I came to realize is that haiku may be far more than a literary pastime. It may help explain something deeper about attention, seasonality, connection, and how people age in Japan.
