With the ever-increasing explosion of foiling into the sailing community Australian Sailing is working to develop programs and resources to support sailors and clubs to get involved in this new and exciting space. One of the first initiatives is the development of FOIL-LABs which are day long introductory sessions allowing participants to experience and learn about foiling. FOIL-LABs provide a safe space for sailors to learn and interact with a new type of sailing experience and equip themselves with new knowledge to take on foiling classes. Sailors will learn the fundamentals that drive a hydrofoils performance, as well learn about the body and physical relationships that offer a path to mastery. Mastering the basics gives more options to have more fun, more often. It also allows sailors to chase performance in a range of modern performance sailing classes in a fun and fulfilling way. Australian Sailing is pleased to be able to offer a number of Foil Labs across the country. Contact your Australian Sailing State General Manager to express interest and find out more!
As always the Cork 1720's were out in force for Volvo Cork Week 2024 this orange kite followed Going to Red the majority of the way down the run after rounding the top mark With over 100 boats on the start line everyone was fighting for air shortly after the start, with the tide coming in all day it paid to get right early to find both clear air and some relief from the stronger tide out in the main channel. On the way back in the trick was to find the deepest part of the channel to ensure you were in maximum tide to increase your speed over ground. The team at Bottom Up Boats hope you like this short clip from our week of racing at Volvo Cork Week 2024
[EN] After spending a long time anchored in Culatra, we realized that a swivel was necessary. It’s not something you always need, but in places where we stay for longer periods, it makes a big difference. So we started researching to find a swivel that was stronger than our chain and shackle, so we wouldn’t have a weak point in the system. That’s when we found the Mantus S2, perfect for our setup. Its working load is 2 tons, which means it’s much stronger than our chain. The S2 sits between the chain and the anchor, allowing the anchor to rotate freely and preventing twists that can weaken the system. It comes disassembled, and you put it together yourself during installation by following the provided steps. Made of 316 stainless steel, it’s super durable and has made our anchoring setup even better! ✨ Less twisting, more security, and more peace of mind to enjoy life aboard Utopia!
