Gardening in these remote islands is more then just a hobbie but an essential practice vital for survival. Walking barefoot through rough terrain to find the areas with the most suitable soil, sections of forest are burnt and cleared with basic hand tools such as machete and axe. The trees are then removed or used for stabilising the soil. This is when the women of the village come together to dig and plant the seeds of various staples. Today Poppy learns the way of planting a variety of yams that will later be remembered as 'Poppy's yams', signifying not only the day that a yachtie came to learn, but also get her hands dirty and help the local community. This act of unity is why these villagers have been able to thrive off growing their own food for so many generations. THIS is why we go sailing. To be all alone and at one with nature in amazing anchorages like the one featured here. We spent days swimming naked, kayaking and exploring tunnels leading to hidden lagoons full of wonder. Floating calmly in warm, crystal-clear waters above pure white sands, brilliant corals and abundant sea life while surrounded by amazing rock formations and lush, tropical jungle with the air filled by birdsong. If this place, hidden away in the Buton Strait of Indonesia isn’t Nature’s Playground we don’t know what is. It was simply our most stunning anchorage EVER! #sulawesiindonesia #nakedinnature
